Learn To Play Hockey
"Learn to Play Hockey" is a structured program designed to introduce beginners to the fundamentals of ice hockey. It's meant for those who are new to the sport and want to develop basic skating and hockey skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Ages
What aged players are appropriate for this program?
Example: Children as young as 3 years old have successfully joined the program. Children should be able to follow basic instructions, and be willing to make effort to skate and "play" independently. Please note that parents are not allowed on the ice unless they are registered as a volunteer coach, so the child must be willing to accept help from coaches.
When
What time of the year does this program run?
Example: Learn to Play Hockey begins in mid November and runs thru February.
Where
Where are practices held?
Example: All practices will be held at the Wexford County Civic Arena.
Practices
When are practices and how often are they?
Example: Learn to Play Hockey practices one night weekly.
We strongly encourage children to also participate in Learn to Skate, which is a free program sponsored by Boon Sports Management. Additional details for Learn to Skate are available at www.thewex.com
Games
How many games will they play? What days of the week?
Example: Learn to Play Hockey does not compete in formal games. We will conduct scrimmages throughout the season during practice times.
Jerseys & Equipment
Are jerseys and equipment provided or are they purchased separately?
Example: Children will need basic equipment. Cadillac Area Hockey Association has a large selection of donated equipment available for families to borrow at no cost. As children develop and compete at higher levels, most families will begin investing in additional equipment. Our coaching staff is always happy to help guide you through the process.
Please contact our equipment manager, Will Lizenby, to set up and appointment to get fitted for gear. You may reach will at (231) 878-4853. Please note that you must register prior to getting outfitted for loaner gear.
LTP 2025-2025
Learn To Play Hockey is an introduction to the best sport on Earth. The program is open to all ages.
Kids are expected to be able to follow basic direction, and have a good attitude.
We strongly recommend participating in Learn to Skate as well, especially for those children new to skating.
As children progress through the program, coaching staff will help place them into our youth hockey program to continue their development.
